Description
Photograph of an Atlantic Puffin. This picture makes me smile, the scene (at least in my head) is a puffin strutting their stuff on the fashion runway, showing off it's beautiful breeding colors to the onlookers judging the show at the edge of the stage.
In reality however, puffins communicate through their body movements and how they walk and stand just like humans do. Imagine yourself living in a crowded city and you are hurriedly walking to work running a few minutes late verses if this is your first time to the big city and your stopping to admire everything in the storefront windows, the architecture, and maybe you are a little bit lost and can't find your way. In both situations your body movements and pace would communicate your message "don't bother me, I'm late" or "wow, what an interesting place".
As you can imagine a crowded rookery with nesting parents everywhere can create tension, the way a puffin walks and moves can display "I'm just passing through minding my own business, not looking for trouble" or "I'm guarding my family".
