Description
Profile view of a wild bull elk with huge antlers. This beautiful male walked casually through town, not a care in the world. After taking a second to make sure there weren't any other cars behind me, I stopped and snapped a photo out the window before quickly moving on when I saw a car coming up behind me.

Years ago I learned that the two key ingredients to being successful at wildlife photography are: 1) being prepared, and 2) knowing where to find the animals. Sounds simple, but it is easy to spend a full day in search of animals and walk away without a single photograph. And while I would never call a day in nature a waste, it can be frustrating when your goal is to take wildlife photos.
I spent countless hours both researching and taking trips to discover what I think are some of the best places in the Eastern United States to practice wildlife photography. There were a lot of frustrating "wasted" trips but then there were those phenomenal trips that took a week to sort through all the photos.
This image of the bull elk is one of those phenomenal places. I try to spend at least one weekend there every fall during the rut. There is nothing like the sound of a bull elk bugling, especially on foggy autumn evening.
In my book the “Explorer’s Guide to Wildlife Adventures”. I share 15 locations in Eastern United States that I consider phenomenal wildlife locations like this one. They're places where I walk away with hundreds of photos and wonderful stories to share with friends.
The Guide isn't full of my stories, no, no, no. It is a reference book to help you plan your trips so you will have your own stories, photos, and adventures to share.
The Explorer’s Guide to Wildlife Adventures is available on Amazon, search for it by ISBN: 9781975711351.
