Description
If you never witnessed elk during the rut, it's a spectacular thing to see! Essentially the goal is for the males (bulls) to gather as many females as possible into their harem so they will have mating rights.
Immediately before this image was taken one of the bulls stole 4 females from the other bulls harem and he wanted them back. The two nearly equally matched bulls eyed each other up, pacing side by side until inevitably they squared up and the battle began.
Years ago, when I started taking wildlife photos, I quickly discovered that one of the biggest challenges to photographing wildlife was actually finding the animals - the photography was the easy part. I set out on a quest to find places where I was practically guaranteed to find abundant wildlife, places like the image above where I consistently walked away with hundreds of photos.
I wrote a book which showcases these types of place - the “Explorer’s Guide to Wildlife Adventures” (ISBN: 9781975711351). The Guide includes 15 locations in the Eastern United States and features a variety of wildlife including whales, moose, elk, seals, stallions, puffins, egrets, alligators, and a variety of other animals.
The book is available on Amazon, you can find it by typing the ISBN number 9781975711351 into the search box - I hope you check it out. Be sure to leave a comment if you do and tell me what you think.
